What's happening to Shoelace? Is it being replaced?

Web Awesome is the 3.0 release of Shoelace, featuring all of the Shoelace components you know and love under a new name.

Everything Shoelace has to offer will continue to be free and open source as Web Awesome Free. We’re introducing Web Awesome Pro as an additional paid option with even more tools at your disposal.

As a Shoelace user, what can I expect to change with Web Awesome?

As a major version release, Web Awesome 3.0 will include some breaking changes from the latest version of Shoelace. These changes not only cover our new branding and namespace but also improvements to the developer experience (DX) and user experience (UX) of the library.

We don’t take breaking changes lightly, so we’re working hard to make this transition as smooth as possible. We’re excited to give a sneak peek of what’s new in our alpha releases of Web Awesome Free and Web Awesome Pro later this year.

What if I'm already a Font Awesome Pro subscriber?

If you’re already a Font Awesome Pro subscriber and if your rewards include a year of Font Awesome Pro, your subscription can be extended by a year.

Last updated: March 26, 2024 08:16

When does the subscription start?

Your subscription starts on the date of the full release, not any of the alphas or betas.

Can I get a receipt/invoice?

Once the Kickstarter is over, we’ll send out a way for folks to get invoices / receipts. And we’re aware that folks from different countries need different things, so we’ll design it so it’s flexible for everyone.

What if I already have a Font Awesome Pro account?

We’ll help you get it sorted so you can have a single login for Web Awesome Pro and Font Awesome Pro. We’ll pro-rate the time left on your FA Pro subscription onto your new FA Pro + WA Pro subscription, AND you get to keep the new lower price.

E.g. If you have 6 months left on your FA Pro sub ($99/yr), that’s essentially $50 left. If you have a new WA Pro + FA Pro sub ($149/yr), you’d get an extra credit of $50 / ($149/yr) and get an extra 1/3 of a year. So your next renewal would be 16 months later. And you get to keep the subscription price from the Kickstarter as long as you keep your subscription active.

Do I get to keep my subscription price?

Yes! You get the price you paid for as long as your subscription is active. For folks backing at the 6-mo tiers, the subscription will be converted to yearly at the end of the first 6 months. But you’ll still receive the discount.

What's the difference between a Web Awesome Pro subscription and a permanent license?

An active Web Awesome Pro subscription gives you online access to the Pro Theme Builder, Pro Pattern Library, Pro Components, and all of the latest and greatest updates, fixes, and services.

With the permanent license, you’ll have continued access to the latest version of Web Awesome Pro you had during your subscription and any themes you’ve downloaded during your subscription. You won’t have access to the Pro Theme Builder, Pro Pattern Library, or any new updates or fixes.

Are these components of accessible? What level?

Simple answer is we spend a considerable amount of time trying to make this the best we can. We strive for AA contrast and follow ARIA APG guidelines as best we can. And we test with screen readers. Our new color palette generator is actually entirely based on WCAG 2.0 and we’re working on APCA next.

Long answer is it’s complicated. Here’s the existing Shoelace doc on accessibility: https://shoelace.style/resources/accessibility

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
